Yesterday i decided to forfeit the Fathers day lie in and the exemption from nappy changing duties and went to see Senna,  Asif Kapadia's new documentary about the Brazilian Formula 1 racing driver and 3 time World Champion.  Even if you have no interest in motor sport what-so-ever  i would still recommend  taking a look as it is a fascinating biography of one of the most successful, ambitious and dedicated sports personalities of recent years. 

The film's masterstroke is its exclusive use of archive footage, with no visible talking heads or modern-day interruptions. The most fascinating of which, for those who are F1 fans will undoubtedly be the behind the scenes footage of the decidedly heated drivers briefings, something we never get to see today.

Thankfully the film focuses on Senna's personality, career and his all consuming desire to win rather than pouring over the fatal accident as other documentaries have done. However, the inevitably tragic ending is undeniably emotional.
