Forgotten Car Accessories

Who will admit to having had them?

It may have seemed like a good idea at the time and everywhere you looked, everyone else had them so they must have thought they were uber-cool too, but who will admit to having had these style icons retro fitted to their prized set of wheels?

*********************************************

From the Hippie beginnings to the punk ending, the 70’s was responsible for some altogether dodgy accessories for your Hillman Hunter or Ford Consul. Just because you drove a basic model didn’t mean you had to drive without style. Self fit vinyl roof kits could happily take a whole weekend, but why not just fit a set of slip on head restraints? Or an Eight Track Stereo blasting out some Don McLean or Slim Whitman?

*********************************************
The 80’s cannot be mentioned without paying homage to special project Erika, better known as the Ford Escort Mark 3. Whale Tail Spoilers, Furry Dice and Sun Visors with you and your latest belle’s name were more important than the fact that you only had an 1117 cc monster of an engine under the bonnet...

*********************************************
From the decade that started with the first McDonalds opening in Moscow all the way through to that famous question “Are you Y2K compatible?” possibly this was the decade best remembered for advances in consumer electronics. Pentium processors and the internet were the new buzz words, and digital mobile phones and cameras, satellite dishes and MP3 players were the must have gadget. So you have all the gadgets, what do you do to attract gazes of awe and wonder from members of the opposite sex as you roll by in your Citroen Saxo (VTS, buddy!)?

With fake bullet holes, spinner wheel trims and Lexus style rear lamps of course! How could any member of the opposite sex fail to be impressed and attracted to you with these quality add-ons?

*********************************************

Timeless “Classics” - Dukes of Hazzard/Colonel Bogie air horns (the least said the better), 15 foot long C.B. aerials, a great way to make your car look like a remote control toy instantly, rear exhaust boxes the size of dustbins, and of course anything in Leopard print or any animal skin. Enough said!

It was a phase we all went through… who will admit to falling into the trap?

So, is this enough to make you consider a change to one of these recession busting, fuel efficient, greener models? One downside is the size of most of the cars listed but there are a number of well sized compacts in there. The styling is improving too with the new wave of eco cars producing stunning models like the Lexus CT 200h, seems to be good enough for Kylie!
