600 horse power, mid engined, rear wheel drive, are the sort of specifications one would expect from modern super cars. But not ones which are created entirely from wood. This is the Splinter SuperCar, the powerful and stylish motor made entirely from wood (or at least wherever possible).

Apart from a number of components, like the 4.6L twin supercharged V8, it is completely built from scratch. A number of different woods were used and even tools & machines necessary to build it had to made by the team. The exterior features a weave in the body panels which is reminiscint of a sort of brown carbon fibre and even the wheels have wooden details. Joe Harmon, the project leader and head designer actually took a weaving course so that he could create the seats that are in it all by hand - amazing!

Even more impressive is that the car started life as a graduate project in the USA at the North Carolina State
University, the designers claim it is a scholastic endeaver to explore
materials, teach, learn and stimulate creativity.
Have a look at the below video from the car's
appearance at a show in the States:
For more info on this amazing car have a look at
http://www.joeharmondesign.com/ for full details including videos of the build in progress or even better Joe Harmon's YouTube
channel http://www.youtube.com/user/joecharmon for build videos including some that detail the level of
technology that was necessary to build something like this from wood.

Micksgarage.ie has announced sponsorship of Formula Vee driver Michael Sweeney, and we will be following his progress as he moves through the driving season at Mondello Park and elsewhere.
Michael has already competed in Northern Ireland and Mondello this year and is confident of a successful first year in the game. The Formula Vee cars in Europe are the stepping stone for nearly all current F1 drivers, and are the immediate category down from F1.
Speaking about the sponsorship, Ciaran Crean, Managing Director, Micksgarage.ie said: "We're delighting to be sponsoring Michael Sweeney and his Formula Vee team. We wish them every success for the 2006 season. Formula Vee has a loyal following among car enthusiasts in Ireland and we’re proud to be involved in whatever way we can and to give something back to the sector in which we do our business".
Speaking after a recent race in Mondello, Michael Sweeney said: "I've had some very exciting races since I’ve started in the Formula Vee series. I’m delighted that Micksgarage.ie is behind me and I’d like to thank them and my other sponsors for their support. We have a busy schedule of races planned for the 2006 season and hopefully I can start climbing up the leader board and start notching up a few wins".
